In many respects title sequences are in retreat on British television screens and if they do air, then they are often cobbled together from the rushes and the designers contribution is often quite limited. A great title however does get the attention of the viewer and it is now the US tv series’ which lead the way with the likes of Six feet under, Dexter, True Blood and Damages etc. Below are a list of some of our titles ranging from the stylised live action shoots to montages using rushes and graphic elements to the full animated sequences.

1. American Voices: History File

Lodestar Production for BBC
Narrative live action sequence using limited props and reconstructed archival documents and shot on Digital Betacam with a long borescope lens to get that intimate quality. There was a certain amount of visual effects added to give the idea of a large old fashioned filing system while in reality a small victorian envelope cabinet was used.

2. WDYTYA

Shed Media US for NBC & BBC
An edited sequence of programme rushes and GV’s with overlaid graphic lines echoing the family tree connectivity. The ‘celebrity’ shots where generated by freezing the action and then extracting the subject from their background and adding a virtual camera to create the subtle movement of this parallax technique.

3. Comedy Catchphrases

3. Comedy Catchphrases

ITN Factual For ITV networks
A title sequence using only graphicised publicity stills, typography and virtual camera movement to illustrate some of the more popular catchphrases from our comedic television past.

4. World's Richest

4. Worlds Richest

ITN Factual For ITV networks
Titles using colourised 3D models arranged in kaleidoscopic patterns to reflect some of the background and interests of the world’s richest people. We shot various models in a small studio in the Poor School in Kings Cross and used the rushes to show live action silhouettes arranged in heraldic fashion.

5. British Empire in Colour

5. British Empire in Colour

Trans World International For BBC 2
A computer generated globe was texture mapped with 19th century map and then composited with newly discovered colour footage of the British Empire from the early 1900′s onward.

6. Time Team - Big Dig

6. Time Team: The Big Dig

Wildfire Television for Channel 4
Titles for popular archeology season where everyone could get involved. We cast 6 different scenarios which represented a diversity of British life and shot them in and around London, attempting to demonstrate what archeological gems could be found just below their feet. We used a twixter plug-in to allow us to speed up and time remap the footage before adding subterranean textures and technical data.

7. Transworld Sport

7. Trans World Sport

IMG World for Channel4, Sky and inflight entertainment.
Title using rotoscoped (frame by frame isolation of subject from background) sports people interacting with 3D logos. There is also a second version of this title which replaces some of the logos with ‘Samsung’ products for the sponsored inflight versions of the series.
